About Fire Core

Core Leaders: Adam “Canvas” Giangregorio, Matt Adolph
Email: fire@fireflyartscollective.org

Fire Core’s mission is to:

  • Give flame artists experienced support both before and during the event.
  • Ensure the safety of fires, fire art, and fire performance at Firefly.
  • Help you use fire pits and generators safely.
  • Oversee fire performance areas and Fire Conclave on Bug Burn night.

Fire Art Safety Team (FAST)

The Fire Art Safety Team is a part of the Fire Core comprised of artists, fire safety volunteers, and people with professional experience. They can help you safely execute Open Fire, Flame Effects, and/or Pyrotechnics** in your art installation or theme camp.

**(Please note: fireworks and pyrotechnics are restricted by Vermont law and are not allowed at the event without approval from the FAC Board of Directors.)

What Fire Core volunteers do:

Before Firefly:

  • Review safety and inspection plans, including all art projects that use fire.
  • Assist the Art Grant Selection Committee and Placement Core with any questions or concerns related to approval and placement of fire art.

During Firefly:

  • Inspect fire art for placement and general safety concerns (e.g. Is it constructed using appropriate materials? Do you have fire extinguishers?). Approved fire art will be given a tag to attach to the fuel tank or regulator; any operation of untagged fire art should be called in to Rangers or Fire Core leads.
  • Ensure that fire pits are properly attended, have the proper safety supplies, and that no additional fire pits are created.
  • We are always looking for a few volunteers to be fire safeties during the burns. All are welcome, no previous experience required. Sign up to volunteer after you receive your ticket. Volunteers must also attend one of the two safety meetings during the event.
